Digital Marketing

If you’re beginning your job search for your next digital marketing role, we have some good news: LinkedIn has reported a 76% increase in marketing job postings compared to last year. But those who have already gotten started are aware that your LinkedIn profile is an essential part of your application–almost as important as your resume.

Why? Because in today’s fast-moving job market, your LinkedIn profile is probably the first thing recruiters will see after you apply for a job, and a one-stop shop where they can see what you bring to the table.

In this article, we’ll not only cover some of the most important aspects of building your digital marketing portfolio, but also highlight some of the industry’s leading digital marketers, and how they’re using LinkedIn to promote their own work.

Creating a Digital Marketing LinkedIn Profile

Let’s go section by section to define exactly what you should include on your LinkedIn profile.

Headline and summary

As a digital marketer, you know that keywords are important–and your LinkedIn profile is no exception. Beginning with your headline and summary, you want to include the relevant keywords for your role, such as SEO, content marketing, PPC, or anything else that recruiters might search for.

Experience and projects

Potential employers want to know exactly what you’ve done in past roles and this is your time to shine: in the experience and projects section, it’s time to brag about what you’ve accomplished, using data points to quantify your successes.

If you’re new to the field of digital marketing, it’s still important to show that you were effective in previous industries. Do what you can to connect what you’ve accomplished back to the skills required for digital marketing roles.

Education and certifications

As the digital marketing field is fast-moving and filled with new things to learn, your LinkedIn profile should reflect your ability to stay up-to-date with the latest trends or tools in digital marketing. Even if your formal education doesn’t include specific marketing courses, include it anyway: today, varied industry experience and skills are highly valued in marketing roles.

Skills and endorsements

Here, list both soft and hard skills, in addition to any certifications you’ve earned. If you have past co-workers or supervisors who are willing to leave you a recommendation, these also go a long way in proving to potential employers that you’re a quality candidate.

Inspiration for Digital Marketing Professionals

We know that there’s nothing like seeing real life examples to help you gain inspiration for perfecting your own LinkedIn profile, so we’ve collected some examples of LinkedIn giants to help spark your creativity.

Rachel Rodger’s about section is a fantastic example of an attention-grabbing and informative summary of her career and accomplishments.

Rachel Rodgers is an intellectual property attorney, business coach, and published author. Rodgers started her career working for state and federal judges, nonprofits, and even Hillary Clinton.

Today she’s the owner of a multi-million dollar business, mother of four, and visionary featured in publications like The New York Times, Women’s Health, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, and on hit programs like Good Morning America, E! News and The Drew Barrymore Show. She is the founder of Hello Seven, a company dedicated to helping historically excluded people make more money.

Her nationally bestselling book, We Should All Be Millionaires: A Woman’s Guide To Earning More, Building Wealth, And Gaining Economic Power, is a powerful guide to creating abundance in your life. Rodgers shares how she went from growing up low-income to glowing up as a self-made millionaire, and how you can do it too.

Jason Keath, on the other hand, chose to take advantage of LinkedIn’s Featured option to highlight some of his work:

Aleyda Solís’ header can serve as a great way to include keywords naturally, while portraying a high level of expertise:
